In case you're new to Eat.Pray.WOD, this year I ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure despite my hatred for running. You can read about running in the Baton Rouge Race for the Cure HERE.
I ran for Team Sixkiller, in honor of my friend, Randa.
This is Randa, AKA: one of the most beautiful people I know.
A little about Randa: One of my oldest friends, Randa Sixkiller, is 30 years old and mother to a wonderful 4-year-old little boy named Tristan. She discovered a lump in her breast a year ago which turned out to be invasive Stage 3 breast cancer. After going through 6 months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation, the results came back great. Unfortunately, two weeks later, she found another lump in her collarbone. She went through chemo and radiation once again, all the while retaining an amazingly positive attitude. Unfortunately, the cancer keeps growing in her body. About two months ago, she got the news that the cancer has spread to her lungs, blood and some more of her lymph nodes. She underwent an unsuccessful trial treatment and is now back on chemo.
Randa is a single mother and treating cancer is not cheap. For this reason, her friends and family would like to raise money to help her provide for her son, pay her medical bills and not have the added stress of money.
If you’re in the Katy, Texas area on June 22nd, come out to Texas Borders Bar & Grill to help support this wonderful woman! 10% of all food and drink sales made between noon and 8PM will be donated to Randa. There will also be a silent auction and other activities to help raise money for her cause. In the meantime, your prayers and positive thoughts are greatly appreciated!
